Kruetz silver ring
€150.00
Silver ring with a bronze clover-inspired cross.
Most commonly known as ’Kretz’ in the Transylvanian saxon dialect, ‘das Kreuz’ is the german word for both ‘cross’ and the clubs or trèfle suite in the standard western 52-card deck of playing cards. The shape’s organic, lobed leaves are beautifully integrated in more than a few medieval village symbols, known as dangale, from as early as the XIIth century. The livestock markings of Meșendorf, Hoghilag, Ruși, Viscri, Ticușu Vechi, Sibiu and Valea Viilor, as archived by Carl Franz Koch in 1826, feature this decorative outline, also present in the trefoil Christian cross, a symbol ingrained with the natural exalting spirit of renewal and ressurection.
Kruetz is the word for cross in the Transylvanian saxon dialect specific to the village of Viscri.
